The Caldera Lake Table
This end-grain slab was given to me by a customer who had used it as a table prior to moving, but didn't have room for it in his new home. It was sitting the back yard rotting in the rainy weather, and when I commented on what a beautiful piece of wood it was, he offered it to me outright. He didn't have to offer twice!
As far as I can tell by grain and smell, it looks like Douglas fir. I'm told it was bought in the Redwood National Forest of Northern California years ago.
I counted the rings and lost patience around 360-370, but it appears to be about 400 years old! (+/- 10 years).
